About The Position

The Human Resources Generalist provides comprehensive Human Resources support to employees and leaders across the division. Serves as a trusted HR resource by providing guidance on employee relations, HR policies and procedures, payroll and timekeeping, benefits and leave administration, onboarding, and HR compliance. Identifies and recommends HR processes that support operational needs and a positive employee experience while ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws. Supports accurate and timely payroll processing and contributes to NYBC Enterprise HR initiatives and project implementations. This position is considered “essential” during severe weather or emergency operation events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant Human Resources experience may be considered.
  • 3-5 years of progressive Human Resources generalist experience, preferably in a fast-paced, multi-site healthcare, manufacturing, distribution, or operational environment.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Hands-on employee relations experience, including coaching managers, addressing workplace concerns, conducting or supporting investigations, and administering corrective action.
  • Experience with payroll and timekeeping administration, including reviewing timecards and resolving payroll and attendance discrepancies.
  • Experience supporting employee benefits and leave administration, including FMLA, ADA accommodations, workers’ compensation, and other applicable leave programs.
  • Experience coordinating onboarding, new employee orientation, employee status changes, and offboarding activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy, responsiveness, confidentiality, and appropriate follow-through.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with employees and leaders at all levels.
  • Sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential and sensitive employee information.
  • Experience using an HRIS and timekeeping/payroll systems; proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

  • Manages workers’ compensation, disability, and unemployment claims, including required documentation and participation in hearings or appeals, as needed.
  • Partners with site leadership on employee engagement, culture, and retention initiatives; gathers employee feedback and recommends opportunities to strengthen morale and reduce turnover.
  • Participates in employee engagement and activity committees and supports division-wide employee programs.
  • Meets regularly with managers to provide HR guidance on policy interpretation, employee relations, team dynamics, performance management, employee engagement, and other supervisory matters.
  • Supports employee disciplinary meetings, corrective actions, terminations, and workplace investigations in partnership with the Director, Human Resources.
  • Keeps the Director, Human Resources informed of significant or ongoing employee relations matters and escalates issues appropriately.
  • Provides site-level interpretation of employment policies, programs, and guidelines and identifies local operational implications.
  • Maintains working knowledge of and supports compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Coordinates and facilitates New Employee Orientation, including scheduling, preparing materials, coordinating presenters, and ensuring a welcoming onboarding experience.
  • Guides new hires through required employment documentation, benefits enrollment, and other onboarding requirements.
  • Coordinates administrative onboarding activities, including security badges, parking access, and other site-specific requirements.
  • Communicates key employee benefit information during New Employee Orientation and supports Annual Open Enrollment activities.
  • Collects and reviews required documentation and processes or coordinates new hires, leaves of absence, compensation changes, terminations, transfers, promotions, and other employee status changes.
  • Maintains accurate and timely HR records and helps ensure the integrity of employee data within HR systems.
  • Serves as a primary resource for managers and employees regarding the Kronos timekeeping system and related processes.
  • Supports benefits and leave administration, including FMLA, ADA accommodation processes, workers’ compensation, and other applicable leave programs.
  • Processes bi-weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with established procedures.
  • Reviews electronic timecards, tracks hours worked, and identifies and resolves timekeeping and attendance discrepancies in Kronos.
  • Responds to employee questions regarding pay, deductions, tax forms, and other payroll-related matters; escalates complex issues as appropriate.
  • Interprets and communicates HR policies, procedures, and programs to employees and managers.
  • Responds to employment verification requests in accordance with established procedures.
  • Participates in HR projects, initiatives, and routine department activities aligned with the HR Business Plan.
  • Serves on the Safety Committee and supports HR-related policies, procedures, and initiatives associated with the Safety Program.
  • Maintains current knowledge of HR trends, best practices, and changes in employment laws and regulations within the scope of responsibility.
  • Provides recruitment and staffing support, as needed, including coordination with hiring managers and candidates.
  • Performs other duties and HR projects as assigned.
