About The Position

Monterey Peninsula Country Club, with over 100 years of history serving a diverse membership and over 250 employees, is seeking an experienced Human Resources Generalist. This role is crucial to our success and member satisfaction, supporting the daily operations of the HR Department. The Generalist will handle a variety of HR tasks including recruitment, onboarding, employee engagement, safety, payroll support, and general administrative duties.

Requirements

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook), HRMS/HRIS systems, and standard office equipment.
  • General knowledge of human resources principles and practices, including recruitment, employee relations, compensation, benefits, talent management, and organizational development.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and their practical application within the organization.
  • Working knowledge of payroll processes, wage and hour regulations, payroll reporting, and payroll software platforms; ability to maintain confidential payroll and employee information with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and make informed decisions in a professional manner.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to build effective working relationships across all levels of the organization and with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with employees, managers, members, guests, and external partners.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while providing guidance and support through a consultative approach.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, safety regulations, operating instructions, and other business-related documents.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and responsive to changing business needs, including maintaining availability for holiday, weekday, and weekend work when required.
  • Ability to maintain a professional image and appearance consistent with the Employee Handbook and departmental standards.
  • High school diploma or GED with at least two (2) years of human resources, management operations, or related professional experience; or an associate degree from an accredited college or university in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field with at least one (1) year of related experience.
  • Experience supporting payroll processing and payroll-related functions, preferably in a multi-department hospitality, club, resort, or service-oriented environment.
  • Must provide valid document(s) to work in the US.
  • Valid California Driver License with clean motor vehicle record.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with the recruiting process, including advertising/job postings, pre-screening interviews, and reviewing candidate files for onboarding.
  • Identifying and implementing efficient and effective recruiting methods and strategies.
  • Collaborating with the hiring manager and/or Human Resources Director during the offer process.
  • Facilitating background, reference checks, and DMV pulls.
  • Handling employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors.
  • Attending and participating in job fairs and recruiting sessions.
  • Assisting with the implementation and conducting of new hire orientation.
  • Assisting with providing education to employees on company policies and procedures.
  • Aiding and guiding management and line staff on HR-related questions.
  • Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and company policies.
  • Reviewing, tracking, and documenting compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments.
  • Maintaining and updating employee records within the HRIS and generating HR reports.
  • Assisting with payroll administration, including reviewing timesheets, auditing employee data, processing employee status changes, wage adjustments, deductions, and other payroll-related transactions.
  • Assisting with the development, implementation, and execution of employee recognition programs and events.
  • Performing routine tasks to administer and execute human resource programs including compensation, benefits, leave, disciplinary matters, disputes and investigations, performance and talent management, productivity, recognition, morale, occupational health and safety, and training and development.
  • Supporting the Club's comprehensive safety program by facilitating monthly meetings, promoting workplace safety initiatives, identifying opportunities to reduce injuries and incidents, evaluating and improving safety training programs, conducting safety inspections and compliance audits, and assisting with the development and implementation of safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring the work environment is safe and Codes of Safe Practices are adhered to consistently.
  • Reporting injuries timely.
  • Facilitating the posting of monthly birthday and anniversary lists and signing of cards.
  • Attending staff meetings.
  • Reporting to work regularly and on time, following directions, taking criticism, getting along with co-workers and supervisors, treating co-workers, supervisors and members/guests with respect and courtesy, and refraining from abusive, insubordinate and/or violent behavior.
  • Providing administrative support to the Human Resources Director, including answering and returning phone calls/emails, responding to inquiries, coordinating communications, and assisting with departmental administrative tasks as needed.
  • Performing other assignments as requested.
