About The Position

The City of Waco seeks a knowledgeable and customer-focused Human Resources professional to serve as the City's Workers' Compensation Coordinator. This role requires strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to build productive relationships. The position operates under general supervision and involves evaluating and administering claims for City employees injured on the job, ensuring compliance with Texas Workers' Compensation procedures and insurance adjusting principles. The role also supports other HR-related duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or a related field
  • 3 years of professional experience in human resources, worker's compensation management or an equivalent combination of education and related HR experience

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all Workers' Compensation Claims with City departments and the Third-Party Administrator according to required timelines.
  • Prepare and coordinate correspondence, notices, and/or letters relating to claims.
  • Communicate with departments regarding employee claims status.
  • Act as a liaison between departments and the Third-Party Administrator.
  • Receive and analyze notifications of changes in policies, procedures, legislation, and regulations to the Workers' Compensation Act.
  • Analyze operational information, evaluate trends, and develop plans to meet future needs.
  • Assure effective communication of workers' compensation issues.
  • Coordinate and assist City departments with the temporary duty assignment process.
  • Provide training on the workers' compensation program.
  • Coordinate with other HR areas related to FMLA, the ADA interactive process and benefits.
  • May be required to travel to various City locations to assist with the Workers' Compensation process or other related HR programs.
  • Inform supervisor of significant matters related to Workers' Compensation and seek supervisory guidance on complex, unusual, high-risk matters, or those requiring legal counsel.
  • May be required to respond after-hours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City-wide emergency.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Supports the relationship between the City of Waco and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with residents, visitors, and City staff.
