About The Position

KIPP SoCal Public Schools is seeking a Human Resources Business Partner to support its network of high-performing public charter schools. This role focuses on strategic performance coaching, culture implementation, employee relations, risk management, and operational excellence. The ideal candidate will partner with school leaders to identify performance gaps, implement support plans, and foster a high-performance adult culture. This position requires a strong understanding of HR principles, employment law, and a commitment to KIPP SoCal's anti-racism standards. The role involves frequent travel to KIPP SoCal schools.

Requirements

  • 5–7 years of relevant HR or Organizational Development experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of all federal, state and local employment and workers' compensation laws.
  • Demonstrated track record as an HR Partner in a fast-paced multi-site organization (500+ FTEs).
  • Deep commitment to upholding KIPP SoCal’s anti-racism standards and promoting a high performance adult culture.
  • Ability to travel frequently to KIPP SoCal schools.
  • Valid California Driver’s License.
  • Ability to move leaders from defensiveness to action and coach them through high-stakes conversations.
  • Ability to identify patterns in adult behavior and school-site systems that undermine accountability.
  • Expertise in using retention and ER data to build cases for cultural shifts.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience within a Charter Management Organization (CMO) or the K-12 education sector is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Identify performance gaps and partner with leaders to implement support plans.
  • Train and coach leaders on the Just Culture Rubric for disciplinary actions.
  • Proactively monitor adult culture in schools and identify root-cause issues.
  • Lead the design and evaluation of cultural interventions using data.
  • Manage complex investigations and employee relations incidents.
  • Guide leaders through difficult transitions (terminations, exits) ensuring legal soundness and a human-centered approach.
  • Translate retention trends and survey data into actionable leadership strategies.
  • Ethically leverage AI as a strategic co-pilot for workflows and innovation.
  • Oversee Workers’ Compensation administration, OSHA reporting, and reasonable accommodation requests.
