About The Position

The York Region Children’s Aid Society (YRCAS) is seeking a Human Resources Assistant to support the Department of People and Culture. This is a Canada Summer Jobs funded position, specifically for eligible individuals looking to gain work experience during the summer months. YRCAS is a non-profit community organization mandated to protect children and youth from abuse and neglect, partnering with parents, caregivers, and the community to provide safe environments through equitable, culturally aligned services. Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in or have recently completed a post-secondary program in Human Resources Management, or in a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply Human Resources best practices, applicable legislation, policies, procedures, and collective agreement.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in drafting and editing high quality and concise written communications; excellent research and documentation skills (e.g. minutes, filing, data entry, etc.)
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and human resource information systems.
  • Robust organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands and changing priorities while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and customer service.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills with the proven ability to clearly define and articulate requirements, priorities, impacts, and solutions.
  • Be able to complete the full hours before August 28th, 2026.
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • Only eligible candidates under the Canada Summer Jobs program will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Support full-cycle recruitment by coordinating job postings, conducting candidate pre-screenings, scheduling candidate interviews, and completing reference verifications.
  • Coordinate on-boarding schedules for new Agency Members and provide support to HR Coordinators in delivering employee, student, and volunteer orientation sessions.
  • Assist with facilitating employee life cycle changes (e.g., letters of leave, transfer, resignation) and update the Agency intranet.
  • Provide support for the completion of employment verification letters for Agency members.
  • Liaise with IT and CPIN departments to coordinate Help Desk Tickets for changes/needs affecting Agency Members.
  • Provide support with auditing and cleaning up data in the Agency’s HRIS (ADP Workforce Now) and conduct periodic employee file audits.
  • Provide support in answering, and where necessary directing, Agency Member requests through the HRInquiries Mailbox.
  • Provide support for organizational learning administration, including updating and auditing learning records, updating learning and development calendars, assisting with logistics and scheduling, and supporting the development of learning communications and materials.
  • Provide support for organizational wellness and health and safety administration, including updating Health and Safety Boards, SDS Sheets and WHMIS Binders, supporting committee communications and research, tracking PPE inventory, and supporting health and safety committee initiatives.
  • Provide support to the People and Culture Team with researching industry resources, best practices, applicable trends, and legislative guidelines and changes.
  • Participate in volunteer and staff engagement activities, events, and initiatives.
  • Participate in various departmental adhoc projects as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
