About The Position

The People Development Assistant is a 12-month contract opportunity and will report directly to the People Development Manager. This position will assist with HR-related tasks and projects to gain hands-on experience in the field. The assistant will work closely with the People Development team to support all aspects of HR including recruitment, employee lifecycle changes, and human resources document management. This is an excellent opportunity for a student to gain practical experience in HR and build a foundation for a future career in the field. Although the primary schedule for this individual is 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, our ideal candidate can work a flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of the business which may include occasional evenings and weekends. This individual will primarily work out of the 165 The Queensway location but may be required on occasion to work out of the 302 Dwight Avenue location.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Post-Graduate Diploma or Undergraduate Degree program specializing in HR or related field
  • Efficient in all MS Office applications
  • Strong organizational skills and time management
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Outlook and Word
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Responsibilities

  • Filing and scanning of employee paperwork such as new hire paperwork, disciplinary and grievance records, termination paperwork, training documents, etc.
  • Conduct the recruitment and onboarding process for Gambles part-time union employee group
  • Coordinate annual compliance training
  • Data entry into ADP Workforce Now (i.e. employee files)
  • Participate in the JHSC and conduct workplace inspections
  • Participate in HR-related projects and initiatives as required
  • Provide administrative support to the People Development team
  • Maintain LMS for training initiatives
  • Manages the employee fruit program
  • Assist corporate event planning
  • General office duties such as ordering supplies, stocking fridges, ordering flowers etc.
