This role involves working strategically as a member of a decentralized HR team, providing consultative services on a wide range of human resource issues to managers and staff of the business unit. Additionally, the Human Resources Consultant will contribute to the broader HR team's work, potentially participating in projects or taking on ongoing responsibilities within the larger organization. Two positions are available: one Regular Full Time and one for an 18-month maternity leave coverage.

Requirements

  • Related university degree or diploma.
  • Considerable experience as a senior generalist in a unionized environment (minimum of 5 years preferred).
  • Excellent track record and experience in a unionized setting providing generalist consultation to managers.
  • Experience in supporting and/or leading a diverse range of HR related processes, including complex investigations and grievance hearings.
  • Skilled at anticipating business needs and identifying risks and opportunities, and moving to action.
  • Proactive problem solver with experience in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, coaching, and facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong teams and relationships.
  • Ability to travel between City sites is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction, coaching, and support across a broad spectrum of HR issues, including interpretation of collective agreement provisions and corporate policies.
  • Manage workforce planning, job and organization design, and performance management.
  • Plan and lead investigatory and disciplinary meetings, and grievance hearings/discussions.
  • Participate in labour management meetings.
  • Work closely with other HR Consultants, HR Associates, other HR functions, managers, staff, and unions to foster a positive employee and labour relations environment.
  • Contribute to the broader HR team's work, potentially including participating in projects or taking on ongoing responsibilities within the larger organization.
