About The Position

The Human Resources Summer Student works within the HR team to complete administrative projects and tasks that benefit the organization. This position is designed to provide the incumbent with practical exposure to two specific areas of Human Resources: Learning and Development and Policy. The role is focused on the administrative coordination and drafting of organizational resources and policy documents. The Human Resource Summer Student will provide support to the HR Team and the organization as a whole. The main focus will be to work on a New Manager Handbook as well as work on reformatting Ops Policy into 4 chapters (Building and Operations, HR, OHS, and Student Groups) and making it easily understood by a Large Language Model (LLM). In addition to these projects the HR Summer Student will work with the HR team on a wide variety of other tasks and projects.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in Bachelor of Business Administration Degree Program
  • Proficient communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office, are a requirement.
  • Ability to work effectively as an independent self-starter.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Mac operating systems will be considered an asset
  • Experience working with a Student Association is considered an asset
  • Familiarity with the University of Alberta and the University of Alberta Students’ Union

Responsibilities

  • Draft and compile a New Manager Handbook to be used as a resource for incoming leaders throughout the organization.
  • Revise and update asynchronous training modules.
  • Provide administrative support for the reformatting of the Operations Policy into four distinct chapters: Building and Operations, HR, Health and Safety,, and Student Groups.
  • Assist in ensuring policy documents are structured correctly for compatibility with Large Language Models (LLMs) to support organizational data accessibility.
  • Assist with the administrative components of various HR initiatives, including recruitment cycles and employee relations projects.
  • Understand the HR systems and recommend appropriate optimizations.
  • Various administrative duties and special assignments as required.
