About The Position

Hyster-Yale Materials Handling, Inc, a world-class manufacturer of industrial lift trucks, has an outstanding opportunity for an exceptional and talented HR Manager I based at our Counterbalance Development Center (CBDC) in Portland, Oregon. This position leads HR for an onsite product development organization of about 300 employees and serves as a strategic partner to site leadership. The HR Manager integrates strategic thinking, business acumen, and day-to-day HR leadership across recruiting, talent, performance management, employee engagement, compliance and organizational effectiveness. The ideal candidate is a practical, empathetic leader, and trusted advisor to senior leaders. This person builds strong relationships, provides coaching, and fosters a collaborative environment that supports quality, innovation, and a customer-focused culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field
  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience, including substantial experience in HR Business Partner roles.
  • Strong HR experience in areas such as leadership coaching, talent development, employee relations, compliance, and benefits.

Nice To Haves

  • An advanced degree or HR certification is preferred.
  • Experience supporting engineering, manufacturing, or other technical teams is helpful in this role.
  • Experience working in a matrixed or global organization is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with site and business leaders to align on business objectives each day to provide HR guidance on workforce planning, employee relations, performance, and organizational needs.
  • Demonstrate agility by adapting HR approaches to evolving business conditions, priorities, and workforce needs.
  • Lead core talent activities, including recruiting support, workforce planning, performance management, succession planning, and onboarding for new hires.
  • Coach managers through employee issues, team challenges, and development opportunities while helping create a positive, high-performing work environment.
  • Oversee day-to-day HR operations such as benefits support, policy interpretation, and compliance with employment laws and company practices.
  • Support organizational changes and site initiatives by helping leaders communicate effectively, manage transitions, and reinforce company culture.
