About The Position

Phantom Fireworks, the industry leader in the import, wholesale, and retail of consumer fireworks, is seeking an HR Intern who is detail-oriented and self-motivated for the upcoming fireworks season. This position provides extensive entry-level HR experience, exposing one to employment laws and practices in many states, and also involves many areas of the HR field. It is a very fast-paced position and requires adaptability to quick change as well as the ability to work as part of a team and alone.

Requirements

  • College Junior or Senior in good academic standing with a major of Human Resources or a related field
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Ability to commute to corporate office in Youngstown each workday
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Ability to talk to candidates, employees and outside entities on the phone
  • Availability to work 40+ hours per week for months of May, June, July (including July 3rd and 4th which are on a weekend, and possibly the prior weekend as well)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changes and requests quickly
  • Ability to maintain extreme confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information

Responsibilities

  • Recruiting—interviewing, background screening, onboarding, setting up temporary employee assignments
  • Research—conducting research on various state employment and minor employment laws
  • Communication—working with multiple departments inside the corporate office as well as other offices, opening HR correspondence and disseminating as necessary, drafting correspondence as requested
  • Unemployment—assisting to or responding to unemployment claims for employees of various states
  • Employment Verifications—Looking up employee information and responding to information requests from outside entities
  • Payroll—Working directly with the payroll department for onboarding and change purposes, learning the time and attendance components of the payroll system
  • Workers Compensation and Safety—Conducting research as necessary, assisting in obtaining and submitting incident reports, communicating policies and procedures
  • Benefits—Assisting with enrollment or audits
  • Employee Relations—Gathering statements for employee or disciplinary issues
  • Retail—Possibly assisting at one our retail locations during final week leading up to July 4th and being HR/corporate liaison at that location
  • Any other HR-related duties that arise
