About The Position

The Human Resources (HR) Generalist supports the Human Resources Manager by handling the daily operational needs of the HR department. The HR Generalist applies established HR policies and practices to resolve routine employee issues, identify trends, and recommend process improvements to the HR Manager. The Generalist ensures accurate documentation and smooth HR workflows. A large responsibility will be to collaborate with the HR Manager and leaders across our organization to plan, source, interview and hire top talent. Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience in human resources or administrative support, including experience with high-volume, seasonal recruiting.
  • Working knowledge of onboarding processes, I-9 requirements, employment documentation standards, basic employment laws and leave administration requirements, including FMLA and state equivalents.
  • Familiarity with HRIS platforms and routine data entry and reporting tasks. Dayforce and Concur experience preferred.
  • Ability to interpret and follow established procedures with consistency and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks with defined deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Maintain uniform and personal grooming in compliance with appearance standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or related field preferred.
  • HR certification such as SHRM-CP or PHR preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit talent to support high volume needs at the local port level including candidate sourcing using various sourcing methods, including social media, job boards and career fairs, screening and interview processes.
  • Processes onboarding and offboarding, including requesting offer letters, background checks, new hire paperwork, I-9s, training assignments, system setup, and termination processing.
  • Serve as a first-level resource for employee relations matters, including basic policy interpretation and procedural guidance, escalating complex issues to the HR Manager.
  • Document employee concerns, questions, and informal complaints in accordance with company practice and confidentiality standards.
  • Assist with preparation of documentation related to employee performance, corrective action, and employee investigations as directed by HR Manager.
  • Ensure timely processing of new hire, status change, and termination information.
  • Follow up with new crew members and coordinate onboarding and orientation activities, ensuring completion of required documentation and training items.
  • Maintain HRIS data accuracy, process changes, upload documents, identify discrepancies, and run routine reports.
  • Serve as the primary HR point of contact for crew members, responding to routine HR questions and escalating as appropriate.
  • Assist Benefits & Payroll team with administration of employee benefits and payroll, providing documentation as needed, triaging basic troubleshooting questions, and assisting crew with processing requests.
  • Track and administer FMLA, Jones Act, and all other leaves, maintain logs, send notices, and coordinate return to work dates.
  • Monitor HR processes for compliance with federal, state, and maritime-specific employment requirements, escalating risks or inconsistencies to the HR Manager.
  • Maintain employee files, records, and compliance documentation.
  • Support training compliance and execution through tracking and reporting follow up, escalating to HR Manager when needed.
  • Assist HR Manager with random drug testing program compliance and documentation.
  • Maintain HR mailbox and escalate matters appropriately.
  • Serve a company culture ambassador.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
