About The Position

The HR Generalist supports the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources function, reporting to the HR Director. This position handles a broad range of HR duties professionally and confidentially and works comfortably with employees and managers across the organization. Core areas of responsibility include new hire onboarding and orientation, benefits administration support, employee relations, training coordination, performance management support, policy administration, and employment law compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred (HR or business-related field), or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2–4 years of experience in an HR role.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Solid organizational and time-management skills, with attention to detail.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, integrity, and sound judgment.
  • Comfortable interacting professionally with employees at all levels.
  • Working knowledge of HR practices, employment law basics, and benefits administration.
  • Proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, and HRIS/database systems.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new software and systems as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • HR certification (SHRM-CP or PHR) is a plus but not required.
  • ADP Workforce Now is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a first point of contact for employees on HR policies, procedures, and general questions.
  • Supports compliance with federal, state, and local employment and benefits laws and regulations.
  • Assists with the recruitment, selection, and onboarding processes, including job ad creation and posting.
  • Conducts new hire and benefits orientations.
  • Supports the HR Director with workers' compensation, FMLA, disability claims, and accommodation requests.
  • Submits payroll-related changes to the payroll team on a regular basis (allowances, bonuses, merit increases, etc.).
  • Coordinates with the operations and training teams to schedule required employee training.
  • Assists with the quarterly employee newsletter and internal communications.
  • Supports employee recognition and engagement initiatives, including company-wide events.
  • Partners with Safety Officers to help ensure safety training is scheduled in a timely manner.
  • Responds to routine employee relations matters, escalating complex issues to the HR Director as needed.
  • Helps facilitate training and development sessions, including new-hire orientation and policy rollouts.
  • Assists in preparing and updating job descriptions in coordination with the management team.
  • Supports periodic review of company policies and the employee handbook.
  • Assists with administration of the annual merit review and performance evaluation process.
  • Provides administrative support to the company's charity committee, including event planning, coordination, and related activities.
  • Promotes a positive, inclusive workplace culture.
