About The Position

This role provides day-to-day HR support and responsive customer service to employees, supervisors, candidates, and external partners. The HR Generalist I will assist with the administration and interpretation of HR policies, procedures, programs, and established practices. This position requires maintaining accurate and confidential personnel, benefit, recruitment, and other HR records in accordance with Agency requirements and applicable record-retention practices. The role also involves HRIS data entry, employee record updates, reporting, auditing, and data validation to maintain accurate employee information. Additionally, the HR Generalist I will prepare correspondence, reports, spreadsheets, presentations, employee communications, and other HR documentation as needed. They will respond to routine employee questions and escalate complex employee relations, policy, benefits, payroll, or compliance matters to HR leadership. Collaboration with payroll and other departments is expected to resolve employee-related questions and discrepancies. The position supports the ongoing review and administration of personnel policies, procedures, forms, and HR resources, and identifies opportunities to improve HR processes, documentation, workflows, and customer service.

Requirements

  • B.A/B.S or equivalent in education/experience
  • Two (2) years of HR Generalist work preferred
  • Must be able to regularly resolve issues with minimal supervision

Responsibilities

  • Administer day-to-day activities associated with the Agency’s health and welfare benefit programs and serve as a primary resource for employee benefit questions.
  • Process benefit enrollments for newly eligible employees and employee separations, including required updates within applicable benefit vendor systems.
  • Conduct routine audits of benefit enrollments, eligibility, deductions, and termination records to ensure accuracy and timely processing.
  • Serve as a liaison between employees, county, benefit vendors, payroll, and other internal stakeholders to research and resolve benefit-related questions or discrepancies.
  • Assist with the planning and administration of annual Open Enrollment, including employee communications, system updates, educational materials, and enrollment support.
  • Administer the Agency’s Tuition Reimbursement Program and Paramedic Incentive Program and other employee programs as needed.
  • Act as primary HR contact for the Wellness Committee and assist with coordinating committee activities and initiatives.
  • Support employee health and wellbeing initiatives, including health screenings, health fairs, flu vaccination events, wellness challenges, and educational activities.
  • Assist with recruitment activities including sourcing, creating and distributing job postings upon approval, and participation in interviews and selection tasks as needed.
  • Review candidate information and assist with determining eligibility for employment based on established Agency requirements and hiring standards.
  • Provide guidance and support in resolving complex or non-routine candidate and pre-employment matters in consultation with HR leadership.
  • Conduct routine audits of recruitment and pre-employment records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established procedures.
  • Assist with recruitment events, career fairs, hiring initiatives, New Hire Academies, and other workforce planning activities as needed.

  • Respond to routine employee questions and appropriately escalate complex employee relations, policy, benefits, payroll, or compliance matters to HR leadership.
  • Partner with payroll and other departments to research and resolve employee-related questions and discrepancies.
  • Assist with ongoing review and administration of personnel policies, procedures, forms, and HR resources.
  • Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, documentation, workflows, and customer service.
  • Provide support for employee relations matters under the guidance of HR leadership, including gathering information, maintaining documentation, and assisting with workplace investigations as assigned.
  • Assist supervisors and employees with routine questions related to performance management, workplace expectations, policies, and HR procedures.
  • Support the preparation and maintenance of performance management, disciplinary, and investigation documentation.
  • Promote positive workplace relationships by providing employees and supervisors with appropriate HR resources and guidance.
  • Participate in and provide HR support for Agency programs, projects, and events, including New Hire Academies, EMS Week, employee recognition activities, Open Enrollment, Performance Management initiatives, Health Fairs, and other employee programs.
  • Serve as a project team member or project lead for assigned HR initiatives.
  • Assist with the development and delivery of employee and supervisor education, training, communications, and HR resources.
  • Collaborate with HR team members and other departments to accomplish Agency and departmental goals.
  • Provide timely, professional, and solutions-focused customer service to employees, supervisors, candidates, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise appropriate discretion when handling employee, candidate, benefit, and organizational information.
  • Demonstrate the Agency’s Standards of Behavior and Core Values in interactions with internal and external customers.
  • Maintain effective working relationships across all levels and departments of the Agency.
  • Comply with applicable laws, Agency policies, departmental procedures, and corporate compliance requirements.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.
