About The Position

Commonwealth Primary Care (CPC) is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and innovative leader to serve as its Human Resources Director to lead our people strategy and elevate our workplace culture. CPC is a physician-owned practice comprised of 41 Board-Certified Primary Care Physicians and 15 Advanced Practice Providers, serving patients across eight office locations throughout the Richmond metropolitan area with 250+ employees. Established in 2002, CPC was founded on the vision of providing comprehensive, patient-centered, and high-quality primary care with a strong infrastructure to support the health and wellness of families in the most efficient, accessible, and technologically advanced way possible. This is a high-impact executive role for a strategic HR leader who thrives in a fast-paced healthcare environment and is passionate about building strong teams that deliver exceptional patient care. As our Human Resources Director, you will serve as a key member of the leadership team, partnering closely with the Executive Director and physician shareholders to align HR strategy with organizational goals. You'll oversee all aspects of human resources—from talent acquisition and employee relations to compliance, compensation, benefits, and culture—ensuring our workforce is engaged, supported, and positioned for long-term success. You will be supported by our HR Generalist and surrounded by our dedicated management team. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience, including leadership/management responsibility
  • PHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification strongly preferred
  • Deep knowledge of employment law, HR best practices, and healthcare workforce dynamics
  • Proven ability to lead through influence, build trust, and navigate complex organizational challenges
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with clinical and administrative teams
  • High level of integrity and commitment to confidentiality

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership across all HR functions, including recruitment, employee relations, training & development, engagement, payroll, and benefits
  • Partner with executive leadership to develop and implement HR strategies that support organizational growth and performance
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to managers and staff, resolving complex employee relations matters with professionalism and empathy
  • Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws; oversee audits, reporting, and risk mitigation efforts
  • Lead and develop the HR team, fostering a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing department
  • Oversee performance management processes, compensation planning, and employee development initiatives
  • Manage HRIS and payroll systems, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and operational efficiency
  • Maintain and update company policies and employee handbook to reflect current regulations and best practices
  • Track and analyze key HR metrics (engagement, retention, recruitment, etc.) to drive continuous improvement
  • Champion a culture of transparency, accountability, and collaboration across all levels of the organization
