About The Position

This role involves being part of an on-site team conducting routine repairs and maintenance on HPE's supercomputers. The position requires daily onsite work and is not a remote position. The primary responsibilities include monitoring and maintaining system health for HPC systems (compute, network, and storage), troubleshooting and repairing hardware issues, interacting with a ticket system to document actions, creating, monitoring, and closing support tickets, and tracking hardware repairs and part cases. The role also involves performing hardware actions like component replacement, operating hand tools and low-power tools, selecting and maintaining tools, and lifting/moving parts and equipment up to 50 lbs individually or 75 lbs with assistance. Occasional operation of a pallet jack may be required. The consultant will also maintain the on-call schedule for 24/7 contracts, assist with hardware and system installation, complete training on specialized hardware, and read system documentation. Collaboration with team members via various communication methods is expected, and occasional assistance with system installation activities is also part of the role. Interface with the parts inventory manager may be necessary.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship required.
  • Onsite daily work required.
  • BS preferred, Associates or some college work preferred.
  • 3-5 years’ experience a plus.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Familiarity with hand tools.
  • Experience with computer hardware and datacenters preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting routine repairs and maintenance on HPE's supercomputers.
  • Monitoring and maintaining system health on HPC systems – compute, network and storage.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing hardware issues.
  • Interacting with ticket system to document actions taken and pass ticket to next step.
  • Creating, monitoring, and closing all support tickets.
  • Reviewing tickets for hardware actions needed and claiming them for action.
  • Tracking/documenting hardware repairs as well as opening, tracking, and closing part cases and returning replaced parts.
  • Performing hardware actions, e.g. component replacement from spares.
  • Operating hand tools and low-power tools (e.g. battery power screwdriver).
  • Selecting proper tools and maintaining tools in an organized way on site.
  • Lifting and moving parts and equipment up to 50 lbs individually and up to 75 lbs with another person.
  • Occasionally operating a pallet jack to move inventory from one place to another within site.
  • Maintaining the on-call schedule to support 365 24x7x2/4 contracts.
  • Assisting with hardware and system installation activities in new systems.
  • Completing training on specialized compute hardware, network, and storage components.
  • Reading system documentation and diagrams to identify specified components within systems.
  • Collaborating with team members using face-to-face, phone, and online communication including email, Teams, and Slack.
  • Occasionally assisting with system installation activities.
  • Interfacing with parts inventory manager if applicable.
