About The Position

The Housing Specialist is a Mental Health Specialist who works as a member of a team. Although this position specializes in housing assessment, the primary duties of the Housing Specialist include providing a wide variety of mental health, substance abuse, vocational, rehabilitative, case coordination, family counseling, and follow-along services to adult persistent and severely mentally ill persons who are currently referred to the program by the District Alcohol, Drug Abuse and Mental Health Program Office. The goals of the all staff are: to assist the persons served to improve their emotional, mental and functional status; to reduce the necessity for hospitalization and incarceration; to assist the persons served improve their ability to live safely, follow treatment protocols, be a productive member of a community environment; to rehabilitate from severe psychiatric or addictive conditions, and to increase capacity for independent living.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college with a major in psychology, social work, counseling or related human services field (i.e. one in which major course work includes the study of human behavior and development, counseling and interviewing techniques, and individual, group or family therapy)
  • At least two years of experience in providing services similar to those in assertive community treatment
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must possess a valid driver’s and unrestricted license
  • Must present credentials that are current and valid and meet safe driving requirements
  • Must submit to a driving record and criminal background screening
  • Must be capable of satisfactorily performing all job functions and tasks with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to maintain the highest level of ethical standards and professional relationships
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, including an excellent command of the English language
  • Must be able to complete required training re: NCI, CPR/First Aid, HIPPA, Exposure control, Person-Centered Thinking, Client Rights, Peer Support, and NC DMHDDSAS required service definition training
