About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Housing Program Coordinator to support low-income, first-time homebuyers on their path to sustainable homeownership. This role is responsible for managing client applications from initial intake through closing, providing financial counseling and homebuyer education, ensuring program compliance, and strengthening community partnerships throughout Montgomery County and the greater Houston area. The ideal candidate is organized, client-focused, and passionate about expanding access to affordable housing. They thrive in a collaborative environment, possess strong communication skills, and are committed to helping families achieve long-term financial stability through homeownership.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in customer service, case management, social services, housing, financial services, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to travel within Montgomery County and the greater Houston area as needed.
  • Willingness to obtain HUD Certified Housing Counselor designation within six (6) months of hire (training provided).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Business, Finance, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience in financial counseling, financial coaching, mortgage lending, or housing counseling.
  • Knowledge of FHA, VA, USDA, and other mortgage products.
  • Familiarity with down payment assistance programs, HUD initiatives, and affordable housing funding sources.
  • Experience using CounselorMax or similar case management platforms.
  • Active HUD Certified Housing Counselor credential.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (written and spoken).

Responsibilities

  • Screen prospective clients for program eligibility and conduct intake assessments.
  • Process applications received through email, referrals, and counseling sessions.
  • Collect, review, and track required documentation from clients and lending partners.
  • Maintain accurate client records and ensure timely database updates.
  • Input and manage client information using CounselorMax and other internal systems.
  • Monitor application progress, inspections, and closing timelines.
  • Communicate regularly with clients, lenders, Realtors®, builders, and other stakeholders regarding application status and next steps.
  • Assemble and review final closing packages for submission.
  • Provide one-on-one pre-purchase financial counseling to prospective homebuyers.
  • Pull and review credit reports, discussing credit history and improvement strategies with clients.
  • Calculate income, assets, liabilities, and debt-to-income ratios to assess mortgage readiness.
  • Assist clients in developing and tracking financial goals related to homeownership.
  • Facilitate Homebuyer Education classes throughout Montgomery County.
  • Lead workshops on financial literacy, budgeting, credit management, and advanced homeownership topics.
  • Coordinate guest speakers, educational activities, and financial technology resources.
  • Complete HUD certification training and obtain HUD Certified Housing Counselor designation within six months of hire.
  • Assist with preparation of HUD, THRIVE, underwriting, grant, and program reports.
  • Maintain spreadsheets and tracking systems related to client and property data.
  • Track referrals, outreach efforts, mailings, and program responses.
  • Ensure compliance with agency policies, program guidelines, and funding requirements.
  • Build relationships with social service agencies, community organizations, and housing partners throughout the Houston region.
  • Identify opportunities to expand financial education and housing resources within the community.
  • Represent the organization at meetings, trainings, outreach events, and community engagements.
  • Support event planning, data collection, and program reporting initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain referral relationships with Realtors®, mortgage lenders, title companies, and other real estate professionals.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to advance client success and program goals.
  • Support the mission and goals of the organization.
  • Maintain updated contact databases and communication records.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
