This casual, as-needed position accepts and processes residents staying overnight in the shelter and monitors residents during an assigned shift to ensure their safety, security, and compliance with house rules. The Housing Monitor maintains accurate records and logs and helps keep the shelter neat and in proper order. Hours are not regularly scheduled, are not guaranteed, and may vary from week to week; flexibility and availability to work when needed are preferred. The role includes preparing rooms and checking fire equipment, processing resident arrivals and intake information, maintaining rosters and property records, and assisting with HMIS data entry. The Housing Monitor distributes linens and hygiene items and secures and distributes medications as required. During the shift, the employee monitors residents and facility security, conducts rounds, records notable situations, responds appropriately to emergencies, and opens and closes shelter doors at designated times. Work takes place in a social services environment where exposure to communicable and infectious diseases is possible. The role requires frequent changes between sitting, standing, and walking, generally within the same building, and limited lifting or carrying of objects under 25 pounds for 5–10% of work time.
