About The Position

Under direct supervision of the Community Development Manager or his/her designee, performs specialized duties to coordinate more effective social and mental health service distribution to Hollywood residents. The Social Services Coordinator is also responsible for developing programs that identify available resources suited to provide assistance to citizens requiring these services. The Social Services/Housing Services Coordinator also performs a variety of administrative duties relating to housing programs, including the housing rehabilitation program. Duties include accepting and processing applications and interviewing applicants to determine eligibility for housing programs. Work is reviewed through observation and verbal and/or written reports for adherence to established regulations, policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work or related appropriate field, plus two (2) years of responsible experience in the health, social services and housing field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License: With proof of automobile insurance
  • Background Check: Must have an acceptable background record
  • Driving Abstract: Must have an acceptable driving record
  • Knowledge of all phases of case management dealing with health care and social service needs.
  • Knowledge of social service programs utilized to provide assistance to families.
  • Knowledge of private, non-profit and other public agencies providing health care and social service programs.
  • Ability to speak publicly and to organize and conduct workshops to the public.
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with participating agencies, City departments and families requiring assistance.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with work colleagues, supervisors, managers and the public.
  • Knowledge of interviewing methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
  • Knowledge and understanding of human relationships.
  • Ability to engage and communicate with diverse population.
  • Ability to create and maintain professional helping relationships.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations governing standards of privacy and confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations, policies and procedures governing housing rehabilitation programs.
  • Skill in the interpretation and communication of housing services program regulations and guidelines.
  • Skills in use of computers and basic software applications.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with work colleagues, supervisors, managers and the public.

Nice To Haves

  • Four (4) years of responsible experience in the health, social services and housing field, or an equivalent combination of experience.
  • HUD Training Certificates preferred.
  • Additional education and experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the above requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and maintains a social services directory, which will serve as a comprehensive list of agencies that provide services.
  • Identifies residents with social needs and coordinate appropriate services by tracking the proper agency and coordinating the contact between the resident and agency.
  • Conducts individualized counseling. This counseling includes, but is not limited to, health care, child care, home purchase procedures, property care and maintenance, money management, and life skills.
  • Direct residents to appropriate agency for assistance.
  • Develops program policy and procedures in partnership with Police, Fire, Code Enforcement, Neighborhood Resource Specialist, Housing Rehabilitation staff and others for a centralized source of information for individuals in need.
  • Organizes links to social service agencies best suited to provide assistance to citizens.
  • Monitors service provider compliance with applicable standards of care.
  • Provides technical assistance to neighborhood associations to enable grass roots groups to help direct residents to social services assistances.
  • Reviews and interprets local, state, and federal housing laws, rules and regulations.
  • Accepts applications for housing rehabilitation program.
  • Interviews applicants to determine their eligibility for the program and verifies the accuracy and authenticity of information submitted; sets up applicant file; prioritizes and notifies applicants of status.
  • Responds to inquiries about housing services programs from both existing and potential clients.
  • Maintains and secures client information and records in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Composes letters and reports, establishes and maintains files, and performs a variety of administrative functions related to the efficient and effective delivery of services
  • Accepts applications for various housing programs, including housing rehabilitation program.
  • Interviews applicants to determine their eligibility for the program and verifies the accuracy and authenticity of information submitted; sets up applicant file; prioritizes and notifies applicants of status.
  • Prepares various mandated reports regarding program activities.
  • Must effectively and positively represents the City in delivering and performing work with colleagues and clients, irrespective of gender, race, religion, age, disability, political affiliation or belief, or sexual orientation.
  • Must establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with work colleagues, supervisors and managers.
