About The Position

The Housekeeping role is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and well-organized environment at El Rio Grande Latin Market. The position follows company SOPs, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), policies, and procedures while completing cleaning and sanitizing tasks throughout the store and housekeeping areas. The employee maintains a housekeeping cart equipped with necessary personal protective equipment (PPE), handles chemicals in accordance with safety requirements, attends safety meetings, and participates in emergency response procedures. Additional duties may be assigned by the Store Director or department manager.

The work is physically demanding and may involve extended standing, walking, stairs or step stools, pushing and pulling carts, lifting, bending, crouching, twisting, and repetitive hand and wrist movements. The role also involves working in hot and cold environments and navigating small or congested areas. A rotational schedule may be required based on the manager’s discretion and business needs.

Requirements

• 0–1 year of housekeeping experience; grocery store or equivalent experience preferred.
• Ability to work within a team environment.
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently with or without supervision.
• Strong prioritization and time management skills.
• Ability to stand for long periods, up to six hours or more, with scheduled breaks.
• Ability to walk short and long distances and use stairs and step stools when necessary.
• Ability to push and pull carts weighing an average of 50 pounds.
• Ability to crouch, bend the neck, back, and torso from the waist to the floor, and twist from side to side without restriction.
• Ability to frequently lift an average of 25 pounds and a maximum of 50 pounds; use another person or a lifting aid when lifting more than 50 pounds.
• Ability to frequently reach below the waist, from waist to shoulder, and above shoulder, and to perform frequent neck, back, and torso twisting.
• Ability to perform repetitive wrist movements and grasp objects averaging 10 pounds, with a maximum of 25 pounds, and handle objects with hands or fingers.
• Ability to work in a physically demanding, high-stress environment.
• Ability to hear and understand verbal instructions and safety alarms or signals.
• Ability to see without impairment for inspection purposes and read small text, including product warning labels.
• Ability to work in extreme hot and cold environments, on a rotational schedule as business needs require, and safely navigate small, close, or congested areas.

Responsibilities

• Follow company SOPs, SDS, policies, and procedures to maintain a safety culture.
• Dust, vacuum, sweep, mop, and clean washrooms, closets, windows, and mirrors.
• Clean and sanitize sinks, toilets, floors, and other areas.
• Maintain a clean and well-organized housekeeping cart equipped with necessary PPE.
• Dispense, use, and store chemicals in compliance with company policies, procedures, and the SDS program.
• Assist with restocking and maintaining housekeeping areas, including offices, training areas, and the break room.
• Attend safety meetings and participate in company emergency response procedures.
• Perform additional duties assigned by the Store Director or department manager.
