About The Position
Directly Operated Child Care Services is responsible for planning and managing the delivery and operations of Child Care programs and services delivered to the community through the Municipal Child Care Centres. You are responsible for performing general housekeeping duties to maintain a high standard of hygiene, and for serving meals and snacks to children at the Child Care Centre while placing an emphasis on safety. Work is performed in accordance with corporate, departmental and branch policies, procedures and guidelines, and the Early Years Act.
Requirements
- Completion of Grade 10
- Minimum of 1 month of experience in institutional housekeeping
- Must meet requirements of the Early Years Act as defined by the Ministry of Education
- Must obtain Food Handler Training and Certification within the timeframe determined by the employer
- Accepted Municipal sanitary practices
- Ottawa Public Health requirements
- WHIMIS (Workplace Hazardous Material Information System)
- Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.
- Meet the required health and hygiene standards
- Take the initiative to spot clean where necessary
- Work around the children and their daily program
- Take and follow directions
- Adhere to schedules and routines
- Read labels on cleaning agents and follow instructions for use
- Self motivated, shows initiative
- Works co-operatively and in a friendly manner with staff and children
- Demonstrates flexibility and adapts to the changing requirements in the workplace
- Reliable with a good record of attendance
- Must have the physical capabilities to perform all job related duties
- Designated Day 1 Ready – immediate requirement for language proficiency: French: oral, reading, writing English: oral, reading, writing
- The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3) with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.
