Housekeeper - As Needed
About The Position
The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining facility cleanliness and helping ensure visitors, residents, families, and staff have a positive impression. Duties include cleaning common areas, performing project and seasonal cleaning as assigned, and completing weekly cleaning and laundry in residents’ rooms. The role follows assigned routines and housekeeping schedules, maintains cleaning supplies and equipment, and helps keep resident apartments and shared spaces clean, sanitized, orderly, and safe. The position works indoors in a climate-controlled environment most of the time. Shifts are generally assigned, but the employee must be able to work various shifts, including evenings or overnights, as well as weekends and holidays. The position follows a rotating schedule that includes weekends.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of housekeeping or cleaning experience.
- Ability to make responsible choices and decisions and act in the resident’s best interest.
- Ability to motivate oneself and work independently.
- Ability to be flexible and work with other staff and residents.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to read, write, spell, perform basic math, speak, and understand English.
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals.
- Strong work ethic.
- Ability to frequently bend and squat to the floor to pick up debris and trash containers and use cleaning tools and products.
- Ability to see objects within 35 feet to monitor work areas and identify areas needing cleaning.
- Ability to interpret colors to read warnings, labels, and wires.
- Ability to continuously move, push, pull, and/or lift objects weighing 10 to 25 pounds.
- Ability to use hands and arms for simple grasping, pushing, and pulling while sweeping, mopping, and using cleaning containers and chemicals.
- Ability to walk, stoop, bend, lift, and carry objects.
- Ability to walk and/or stand for prolonged periods.
- Ability to speak clearly and make oneself understood in face-to-face interactions.
- Ability to see objects closely to read directions, instructions, and chemical warnings.
- Ability to hear normal sounds and voices with some background noise to receive verbal instructions, answer telephones, and communicate with others.
- Ability to work various shifts, weekends, holidays, evenings, and/or overnights.
Responsibilities
- Provide consistent, quality work to residents and staff.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area and cleaning cart.
- Follow job routines and instructions according to the assigned housekeeping schedule.
- Ensure resident apartments and laundry are clean and sanitized as scheduled.
- Maintain inventory for daily needs and notify a supervisor about supply issues.
- Help keep common areas neat, clean, and safe.
- Follow the daily schedule to complete tasks in a timely manner.
- Vacuum hallways, elevators, and furniture.
- Wash the inside of glass doors and windows.
- Sweep and/or mop floors.
- Clean restrooms and stock restroom supplies.
- Dust and remove rubbish or trash.
- Wash and polish woodwork and baseboards.
- Perform project and seasonal cleaning duties as assigned.
