Household Manager

About The Position

We are a warm, social family based out of Brooklyn, NY with a second home in the Berkshires, Massachusetts. This property is visited regularly throughout the year, with visits occurring at least once a month, for a month or two in the summer, and as a gathering place for holidays and guests. The home is large and lively when we are there. We both work from home with flexible schedules and move between properties with some rhythm and predictability. We have a young baby and a big, lovable Bernese Mountain Dog. We value a professional and respectful working relationship built on trust, competence, and clear communication. Our Berkshires home already has a great team in place — a housekeeper, landscaper, and a caretaker who does weekly check-ins and seasonal tasks. We need someone who can serve as the project-minded coordinator that ties it all together: a person who proactively manages vendors, keeps the property prepped and running smoothly, and handles the operational details so that every time we arrive, things are simply taken care of.

Requirements

  • Maintain a smoke-free environment
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license; mileage reimbursement provided for work-related errands
  • Comfort with a large, friendly dog
  • Candidates are required to be up to date on recommended vaccinations in line with American Academy of Pediatrics and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines (including general, flu, and COVID-19 vaccinations), subject to applicable legal accommodations
  • Project manager's mindset — think ahead, communicate clearly, follow through without reminders, and come to the table with solutions rather than problems
  • At ease talking with contractors and vendors
  • Do not get rattled when things don't go according to plan, and know how to troubleshoot calmly and effectively
  • Comfortable in a defined, professional working relationship and honor boundaries
  • Takes pride in the details — a well-stocked fridge before the family arrives, a smoothly coordinated vendor visit, a household that hums along even when no one is watching

Nice To Haves

  • Being local to the Berkshires area is strongly preferred, as community knowledge and existing vendor relationships are a genuine advantage in this role.
  • Potential for assisting with feeding or walking the dog on occasion, for the right, K-9 loving candidate.

  • Provide mail and package handling, including breaking down boxes and keeping mail piles organized
  • Assist with occasional returns
  • Coordinate donation drop-offs (clothing, gear, household items) and junk removal as needed
  • Create and maintain household organization systems; take on ad hoc organizational projects as they arise
  • Reset and prep the home following the family's departure (including clearing the fridge, running the dishwasher, and preparing the home for the next visit)
  • Handle event, holiday, and guest prep ahead of arrivals — including setting up air mattresses, refreshing linens, and ensuring the home is guest ready
  • Proactively manage recurring household maintenance and upkeep, including batteries, light bulbs, smoke detectors, and other routine needs
  • Perform occasional deep cleans as needed including fridge, and other highly used areas
  • Maintain awareness of the family's travel schedule to coordinate pre-arrival prep
  • Track receipts and expenses for purchases made on behalf of the household
  • Wash, fold, and organize laundry following the family's departure, including bed linens, towels, and baby items
