About The Position

We are a two-physician household in Cedar Rapids with two young, energetic children and two beloved, professionally-trained sheepadoodles. Our days are full and our careers are demanding, which means the household often moves faster than we can keep up with. We believe in doing right by the people around us and treating everyone with genuine respect. We love staying active, we enjoy cooking when we have the time and space for it, and we deeply value the time we get to spend together as a family. Ultimately, we’re working toward a home that feels calm, orderly, and intentional, and we’re hoping to find the right person to help us create it. We are both high achievers in our professional lives, but neither of us would call ourselves naturally Type A at home. That is where you come in. We need someone who can walk through the door, see what needs to happen, and make it happen without being asked. We want to come home to clear surfaces, a fresh and comfortable space, and the feeling that everything is under control so we can put our energy into our kids and each other. This role has real room to grow. We are looking for someone who will be a long-term partner in how our household runs, and we expect the scope to evolve as systems get established.

Requirements

Able to maintain a smoke-free and vape-free environment.
Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Reliable personal transportation with a clean driving record required; mileage reimbursement provided for work-related errands.
CPR and First Aid certified (or willing to obtain).
Candidates are required to be up to date on recommended vaccinations in line with American Academy of Pediatrics and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines (including COVID-19 and influenza), subject to applicable legal accommodations.
Comfortable with and genuinely enthusiastic about working alongside dogs, including structured feeding and care routines.
Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. as needed (e.g., pet food bags, household supplies).
Ability to navigate stairs throughout the day as part of normal household duties.
Organized, proactive, and confident in your judgment.
Notice what needs to be done before anyone has to ask, and take ownership without waiting for direction.
Natural eye for aesthetics and order; instinct that makes a space feel not just clean but genuinely well put-together.
Tactful and emotionally intelligent.
Understand that one of us frequently works from home on video calls and needs the space and quiet to do that well.
Communicate clearly and efficiently, prefer texting for day-to-day updates, and know when to check in versus when to just handle it.
Love dogs, genuinely, and be comfortable with structured animal care routines.
Bring steady energy and be comfortable with the physical demands of the role.

Responsibilities

Create and maintain household organization systems throughout the home, with a particular focus on high-clutter zones including the kitchen, entryway, mudroom, and storage areas.
Perform daily surface resets: clear and wipe counters, sweep kitchen, tidy living spaces, and vacuum high-traffic areas.
Prepare home for bi-weekly professional cleaning service.
Handle mail and package intake: open and put away deliveries, break down and recycle boxes.
Refresh and maintain garage, mudroom, and entryway drop zones.
Manage seasonal transitions including clothing swaps (boots, jackets, winter gear) and holiday decor setup and takedown.
Coordinate donation drop-offs for outgrown children's items and household goods.
Prepare guest spaces, including fresh bedding and towels.
Pack and unpack for family travel; reset and restock the home in advance of the family's return from trips.
Change batteries, light bulbs, and smoke detectors as needed.
Maintain monthly AC filter changes.
Manage and maintain running household supply lists across all categories.
Handle online ordering and subscriptions via Instacart, Amazon, and Target; in-person shopping as needed for specialty or fresh items.
Process returns, occasional gift shopping, and general family errands as needed.
Prepare 1-2 dinners per week and occasional lunches, following provided recipes or guidance.
Prep and organize ingredients so the family can cook when schedules allow.
Maintain a clean, functional and well-stocked kitchen.
Wash, fold, and put away all household laundry on a very consistent basis.
Ensure work clothing, workout gear, and everyday items are always clean, organized, and accessible.
Manage linen rotation including towels and bedding.
Maintain tidy and well-stocked laundry areas.
Provide daily feeding for two sheepadoodles, including hand-feeding as part of their established training routine.
Walk dogs and provide outdoor time on busier days.
Maintain pet supply inventory including food (large bags) and waste supplies.
Keep family vehicles fueled, clean, and organized on a regular basis.
Schedule routine vehicle maintenance as needed.
Track registration and insurance renewal dates.
Provide very occasional school pickup or drop-off coverage in true emergency situations; must be comfortable with car seat use.
Serve as occasional backup childcare support when needed; possibility of date-night coverage as the relationship develops.
Be present for and coordinate with service providers including cleaners, contractors, and landscapers.
Research vendors, coordinate repairs, and gather quotes as needed.
Manage seasonal property maintenance tasks.
Keep covered porch and outdoor spaces tidy and functional.
Maintain visibility into the household calendar to anticipate upcoming needs and flag scheduling conflicts proactively.
Track household receipts and expenses using family accounts.
Coordinate occasional dinner reservations and event logistics.
Run local errands including gift purchasing, bank runs, and card pickups.
