About The Position

We are a warm and intentional family of six seeking a proactive, organized, and detail-oriented House Manager & Family Assistant to partner with us in keeping our household running smoothly. This part-time role (24 hours/week) involves maintaining household organization, providing family support including backup childcare, assisting with meal planning and preparation, managing laundry and errands, overseeing vendors, and supporting administrative tasks. The ideal candidate will be a trusted, long-term partner who can anticipate needs, solve problems independently, and contribute to a calm and supportive environment for the family. This role offers the opportunity to grow with the family and evolve as their needs change, including potential travel to a second home in Michigan and date night babysitting opportunities.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Maintain household organization systems and perform daily resets (dishes, vacuuming, wiping surfaces, making beds, taking out trash).
  • Use eco-friendly, non-toxic cleaning products to support healthy indoor environments.
  • Tidy playroom, art area, and kids’ areas daily.
  • Rotate seasonal clothing for children, managing size transitions.
  • Assist with organizing and hosting duties for family events, school events, and special occasions.
  • Refresh high-traffic areas like the mudroom and entryway.
  • Provide backup childcare and supervision as needed.
  • Assist with occasional school or activity pick-ups and transport.
  • Help with travel prep for children, including packing and coordinating outfits.
  • Assist with occasional family outings.
  • Process produce (wash and chop) for grab-and-go snacking.
  • Prepare occasional meals and snacks for the children.
  • Batch prepare breakfast options and proteins for the week.
  • Prepare healthy dinners, either preparing select ingredients or executing full recipes.
  • Follow family’s dietary preferences for organic whole foods.
  • Maintain kitchen cleanliness and organization.
  • Assist with grocery shopping and pickup.
  • Wash, fold, and organize family laundry, with an emphasis on children’s clothes.
  • Steam items as needed and hang-dry items for maintained quality.
  • Oversee linen washing and rotation.
  • Maintain tidy and stocked laundry areas.
  • Manage shared household supply lists and notify when items are running low.
  • Manage subscriptions and delivery/unpacking of household supplies.
  • Put away and organize household supplies, distributing and refilling as necessary.
  • Run errands as requested (returns, dry cleaning, gift shopping, party supply pickup, donations).
  • Handle mail and packages and break down boxes.
  • Serve as the on-site point of contact for vendors (cleaners, landscapers, service providers).
  • Manage outdoor spaces, ensuring toys and furniture are cleaned regularly.
  • Assist with preparations for hosting at and traveling to the family’s second home in Michigan.
  • Perform deep cleaning for appliances.
  • Manage compost for both the at-home composting system and pickup service.
  • Clean winter gear and organize for storage.
  • Assist with packing and unpacking for the family’s local move.
  • Maintain awareness of joint family Skylight Calendar, ensuring appointments and logistical needs are planned for.
  • Maintain awareness of family travel planning and provide logistical support.
  • Maintain pet supplies.
  • Feed cat and clean litter as needed.
  • Opportunities to pet/house sit will be available during family travel.
