About The Position

This is a part-time role for a House Manager & Family Assistant in Austin, TX, requiring 15-20 hours per week with a flexible schedule, preferably Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. The position involves managing daily household responsibilities to allow the family more quality time with their two young children. The ideal candidate is responsible, trustworthy, efficient, and able to work autonomously while collaborating with other household staff, including a nanny. This role offers the opportunity to build a long-term relationship with a family that values organization, calm, and thoughtful support.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all family laundry from start to finish, including washing, folding, organizing, and putting away (approximately 4-5 loads daily).
  • Treat stains as needed.
  • Manage weekly linen rotation for bedding, towels, and pool towels.
  • Wash bathroom rugs monthly.
  • Wash couch cushion covers quarterly (3 couches including play couch).
  • Steam clothing monthly or as needed.
  • Keep laundry areas clean and supplies well-stocked.
  • Prepare simple, healthy family dinners Monday through Thursday (a mix of make-ahead and fresh options) using provided recipes.
  • Batch prep breakfast items such as egg bites, overnight oats, and chia pudding for all family members.
  • Prepare lunches for parents using leftovers when possible, plus occasional grab-and-go salads.
  • Pack daily toddler lunches in bento box style using leftovers or homemade snacks.
  • Batch prep homemade snacks weekly including granola bars, blueberry muffins, yogurt bark, and peanut butter bars.
  • Complete grocery shopping in person based on shared family list.
  • Maintain kitchen cleanliness and organization.
  • Reset and tidy home daily, including wiping surfaces, managing dishes, vacuuming high-traffic areas, and helping to prepare for weekly cleaning crew.
  • Own the daily reset of the entire first floor including primary bedroom and entryway.
  • Create and maintain organizational systems throughout the home.
  • Execute seasonal swaps for children's clothing sizes, bedding, and decor.
  • Coordinate donation drop-offs or resale of items as requested.
  • Care for indoor plants.
  • Change batteries, light bulbs, and smoke detectors proactively.
  • Prepare guest room for frequent visitors and reset after stays.
  • Occasional assistance with quarterly event or party hosting preparation.
  • Track receipts for on the job expenses.
  • Shop for and restock pantry, fridge, and household supplies.
  • Manage shared household supply list.
  • Break down boxes and manage mail.
  • Run errands as requested: make returns, drop off packages, occasional gift shopping.
  • Own and maintain the diaper bag, ensuring it is always fully stocked.
  • Load and unload bottle and pump part washer frequently, as needed, until baby has outgrown bottle feeding stage.
  • Prep backpacks, clothing, and snacks for children.
  • Stock both family vehicles with backup supplies including extra outfits (short and long sleeve) and diapers for each child.
  • Provide backup childcare when nanny is sick or on vacation.
  • Assist with unpacking after family travels.
  • Be present on-site when vendors or contractors visit the home.
  • Water garden and grass once weekly if there has been no rain during warm weather.
  • Perform monthly deep cleans of washer, dishwasher, and ice machine.
  • Clean air purifier filters in all bedrooms quarterly.
  • Handle organizational projects as needed (e.g. toy rotation and organization).
