About The Position

The Hosting Capacity Planning Department performs analysis of Georgia Power’s Distribution system to determine the amount of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) generation that can be seamlessly added to our electric system without necessitating changes or upgrades. This position will support the growing needs from solar developers by providing Hosting Capacity maps of the Distribution system to aid them in their siting of potential generation projects. This position will be responsible to determine the available capacity and constraints on the Transmission system that impact the Solar Generator projects, provide capacity information for Distribution substation banks, create base cases, and determine the available Hosting Capacity for Solar load on each of our Distribution feeders.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years electrical utility distribution, transmission experience desired; additional consideration of Power Delivery experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong technical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective at building relationships with cross functional teams.
  • Ability to work under deadlines to respond to customer demands.
  • Ability to prioritize work effectively, exercise sound judgment, and accurately complete multiple tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology is preferred, additional consideration of experience for electric utility industry certifications.
  • Experience with the CYME circuit analysis program, Python Scripting or other Distribution modeling software is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Georgia Power’s Hosting Capacity product.
  • Provide regular updates to the current conditions of our Distribution feeders.
  • Run CYME circuit analysis modeling to determine the available capacity for each circuit.
  • Verify and gather equipment data and perform consistent modeling for Hosting Capacity output.
  • Work with contractor on specific circuits related to the methodology of gathering load data, and the allocation of that load by either Connected kVA or kWh Consumption.
  • Determine the available capacity and constraints on the Transmission system that impact the Solar Generator projects.
