About The Position

The Host position at Advocate Condell Medical Center - Food and Nutrition is a part-time role responsible for ensuring physician's diet orders are met by maintaining accurate patient card files and adhering to specific standards for diet compliance. This role involves processing diet orders, communicating with patients and staff, utilizing CBORD software, and providing high-quality patient service in distributing meals and nourishments. The Host also plays a role in training other employees and attending required meetings.

Requirements

  • 6 months to 1 year experience in hospitality industry or customer service experience preferable
  • Ability to speak, read and write English clearly and proficiently
  • Basic Computer skills (ie data entry)
  • Math skills: conversions of oz, cc, ml
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to walk for significant periods of time when going to patient’s rooms.
  • Safety and sanitation when entering patient’s rooms or kitchen.
  • Ability to handle various tasks simultaneously especially during peak hours.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally with assistance and/or 10 to 15 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Responsibilities

  • Processing Diet Orders: Follows physician’s diet orders for all patients, updates and maintains accurate patient card files in the automated diet office, adheres to specific standards for diets when entering selections into the computer or modifying/checking menus, and updates/maintains nourishment orders to ensure diet orders are met. Utilizes CBORD and Care Connection for meal selection and processing diet orders and changes.
  • Communication: Assists patients with room service when appropriate, communicates effectively with patients and/or family with menu selections, communicates between nursing, room service operators, and kitchen staff to clarify orders and provide prompt service, and communicates special patient needs to dietitians.
  • CBORD (computer) use: Seeks new training/knowledge of CBORD, utilizes manuals and technical support, and can perform all host/hostess positions accurately.
  • Training/Inservices/Meetings: Assists with training of other employees and attends scheduled inservices and meetings.
  • Provides high quality patient service in distributing patient trays and nourishments.
  • Cart and Tray Delivery and Pick-up: Distributes patient meals, verifies diet and meal accuracy at point of service, and retrieves soiled meal trays from patient areas and transports them to a designated cart.
  • Nourishments: Delivers nourishments to assigned patients, delivers bulk nourishments to assigned unit kitchens, and properly stores delivered bulk nourishments in unit kitchens.
  • Other: Upholds Advocate Lutheran General Hospital's Service Commitment, uses courtesy and respect in all interactions, maintains professional image and follows department dress code, demonstrates a caring attitude with patients, families, and guests, responds positively to all requests seeking to maximize the dining experience, communicates wrong or missing items to the kitchen, communicates patients' needs to nursing, documents intakes on patients, documents calorie counts for designated patients, and performs additional miscellaneous duties, communicating status to supervisor.
