About The Position

The Host/Hostess position at Don Juan's Cocina is responsible for extending a warm greeting to guests, managing wait times, seating guests, and maintaining the front-of-house area. This role requires excellent communication skills to coordinate with servers and kitchen staff, ensure smooth service, and address guest inquiries and concerns. The Host/Hostess must also stay knowledgeable about the menu and promotions, handle complaints professionally, and monitor table turnover. Additionally, the role involves performing sidework, assisting with bussing tables, and maintaining awareness of restaurant operations. All duties must be performed in compliance with safety, health, and gaming regulations.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience working in the food and beverage industry.
  • Demonstrated experience performing within specific deadlines or under pressure.
  • Demonstrated experience problem solving, organizing, and prioritizing work.
  • One (1) or more years of recent and related experience working as a host/hostess, preferably within a hospitality, restaurant or gaming environment.
  • Demonstrated effective and diplomatic oral and written communication skills using English.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations and cashiering skills.
  • Has strong customer service skills.
  • Successful completion of Bloodborne Pathogens and hazardous material training.

Responsibilities

  • Extend a warm greeting to restaurant guests upon their arrival, accompanied by a genuine smile and a positive attitude.
  • Calculate and provide accurate wait times, along with keeping guests informed about their table status.
  • Escort guests to their designated tables, present menus, and assist with seating preferences. Accommodate special seating requests when feasible.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the front-of-house area, including the host station and waiting area.
  • Foster communication between servers and kitchen staff to ensure a smooth, coordinated, and equitable seating process, preventing servers from becoming overwhelmed or underseated.
  • Engage with guests, anticipate their needs, and respond promptly to inquiries or concerns.
  • Stay well-versed in the menu, daily specials, and restaurant promotions to provide accurate information to guests.
  • Address guest complaints or issues professionally or escalate them to the manager when necessary.
  • Monitor and optimize table turnover for smooth and efficient service.
  • Report to work as scheduled, on time, and ready to work. Wear and maintain all uniforms properly, including nametag. Must wear a gaming license if in possession of one.
  • Perform all duties in compliance with safety standards, health standards, the Colorado Limited Gaming Act, and internal policies and procedures. Comply with established security policies and procedures.
  • Complete sidework, balance drawer at shift end, and assist bussing tables as needed.
  • Maintain alertness for the performance of duties and a general awareness of restaurant operations at all times. Keep the supervisor informed of any concerns.
  • Perform other duties, including special projects, as needed and directed.
