About The Position

The Host/Hostess position is responsible for seating guests in a prompt, friendly, and efficient manner and ensuring equal distribution of guests among servers. The Host/Hostess also ensures that guest experience and the environment is positive. This role requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, customer service or hospitality experience, and a NYS Food Handlers Permit. Fluency in English is required, and the ability to compute basic mathematical calculations is necessary. The role involves standing for prolonged periods and lifting up to fifteen pounds.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old and have the ability to obtain the appropriate license pursuant to the applicable statute, rules and regulations.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents, such as policy and procedure manuals and other related documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries from other Team Members or guests.
  • Fluency in English required.
  • Ability to write detailed instructions and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to decipher various reports and maintains reports upon request with strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • The Team Member is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • The Team Member is also regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls.
  • The Team Member is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, and to sit, climb or balance, and stoop, stretch, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Moderate physical ability such as lift or maneuver at least fifteen (15) pounds, and prolonged standing during the shift.
  • Must be able to handle intoxicated guests in a professional manner.
  • Team Members must be able to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the property.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or G.E.D preferred
  • Experience in customer service or hospitality preferred
  • Previous experience in gourmet or fine-dining preferred
  • Must have a NYS Food Handlers Permit

Responsibilities

  • Greets and seats customers.
  • Supplies guests with information on services available on property.
  • Answers phone calls and directs them appropriately.
  • Accurately makes and cancels reservations.
  • Effectively maintains wait and quote times.
  • May take orders over the phone, ensures all items are in a bag and ready for the guests.
  • May handle transactions at the host stand.
  • Accommodates any special needs of guests, i.e., boosters, highchairs, etc.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.
