About The Position

Transfers and transports patients safely and effectively from patient care areas to and from diagnostic/ testing areas. The role involves transporting stable, non-monitored patients, communicating effectively with patients and healthcare providers, assisting patients with restroom needs, safely transferring patients using transfer devices, cleaning transport equipment, managing and redistributing equipment, replacing oxygen tanks, providing directions to visitors, and maintaining current BLS certification. The position also requires attending departmental meetings and continuing educational activities.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED recommended.
Basic skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic.
Maintains current BLS certification.

Prior healthcare experience is not required.

Responsibilities

Transport stable, non-monitored patients from patient care areas to and from diagnostic/ testing areas (such as CT, X-ray, Angio, Hemo) and to inpatient units for admissions.
Effectively communicate with the patient, family, visitors, and the direct care providers.
Directly speak with the RN or the Healthcare Provider prior to a transport and when the patient returns to the unit.
Assist the patient with his/her restroom needs as necessary.
Safely transfer patients using a transfer device such as a patient sling, slide board, or other hospital approved transfer devices.
Cleans transport equipment between each patient use.
Transport, locate, and redistribute equipment such as stretchers, wheelchairs, Airpals, Stryker Glides, oxygen, and other necessary equipment to perform transports.
Replaces oxygen tanks as needed (less than 500 psi).
Provides directions to families and/or visitors.
Maintains current BLS certification.
Attends and participates in departmental meetings and continuing educational activities.
