About The Position
The Hospital Transport role is responsible for safely and effectively transferring and transporting patients from patient care areas to diagnostic/testing areas and back. This includes assisting patients with restroom needs, cleaning transport equipment, and redistributing necessary equipment. The role also involves providing directions to visitors and maintaining current BLS certification.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED recommended.
- Basic skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic.
- Prior healthcare experience is not required.
- Maintain current BLS certification.
Responsibilities
- Transport stable, non-monitored patients from patient care areas to and from diagnostic/testing areas (such as CT, X-ray, Angio, Hemo) and to inpatient units for admissions.
- Effectively communicate with the patient, family, visitors, and direct care providers.
- Directly speak with the RN or Healthcare Provider prior to a transport and when the patient returns to the unit.
- Assist the patient with restroom needs as necessary.
- Safely transfer patients using a transfer device such as a patient sling, slide board, or other hospital-approved transfer devices.
- Clean transport equipment between each patient use.
- Transport, locate, and redistribute equipment such as stretchers, wheelchairs, Airpals, Stryker Glides, oxygen, and other necessary equipment to perform transports.
- Replace oxygen tanks as needed (less than 500 psi).
- Provide directions to families and/or visitors.
- Maintain current BLS certification.
- Attend and participate in departmental meetings and continuing educational activities.
