About The Position

The Hospital Transport position is a part-time role focused on the safe and effective transfer and transportation of patients within the hospital. This involves moving patients between care areas and diagnostic/testing locations, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the process. The role requires clear communication with patients, families, and healthcare providers, as well as the ability to assist patients with personal needs and safely operate transfer equipment. Additionally, transporters are responsible for maintaining equipment cleanliness, managing hospital equipment inventory, and providing directions to visitors.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED recommended.
Basic skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic.
Current BLS certification.

Nice To Haves

Prior healthcare experience is not required.

Responsibilities

Transport stable, non-monitored patients from patient care areas to and from diagnostic/testing areas (such as CT, X-ray, Angio, Hemo) and to inpatient units for admissions.
Effectively communicate with the patient, family, visitors, and the direct care providers.
Directly speak with the RN or the Healthcare Provider prior to a transport and when the patient returns to the unit.
Assist the patient with his/her restroom needs as necessary.
Safely transfer patients using a transfer device such as a patient sling, slide board, or other hospital approved transfer devices.
Clean transport equipment between each patient use.
Transport, locate, and redistribute equipment such as stretchers, wheelchairs, Airpals, Stryker Glides, oxygen, and other necessary equipment to perform transports.
Replace oxygen tanks as needed (less than 500 psi).
Provide directions to families and/or visitors.
Maintain current BLS certification.
Attend and participate in departmental meetings and continuing educational activities.
