About The Position

Transfer and transport patients safely and effectively from patient care areas to and from diagnostic/ testing areas. This role involves assisting patients with their needs, including restroom assistance, and safely transferring them using appropriate equipment. The transporter will also be responsible for cleaning transport equipment, managing and redistributing equipment like stretchers and wheelchairs, and replacing oxygen tanks as needed. Additionally, the role includes providing directions to visitors and maintaining BLS certification.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED recommended.
Basic skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic.
Maintain current BLS certification.

Nice To Haves

Prior healthcare experience is not required.

Responsibilities

Transport stable, non-monitored patients from patient care areas to and from diagnostic/ testing areas and to inpatient units for admissions.
Effectively communicate with the patient, family, visitors, and direct care providers.
Directly speak with the RN or Healthcare Provider prior to a transport and upon patient return.
Assist the patient with restroom needs as necessary.
Safely transfer patients using a transfer device such as a patient sling, slide board, or other hospital-approved transfer devices.
Clean transport equipment between each patient use.
Transport, locate, and redistribute equipment such as stretchers, wheelchairs, Airpals, Stryker Glides, oxygen, and other necessary equipment.
Replace oxygen tanks as needed (less than 500 psi).
Provide directions to families and/or visitors.
Maintain current BLS certification.
Attend and participate in departmental meetings and continuing educational activities.
