About The Position

The Hospital Driver works in the Lab Couriers department at Trinity Health Ann Arbor. The role drives a hospital vehicle on scheduled and unscheduled trips to and from outpatient laboratory facilities, physician offices, and other locations to pick up and deliver laboratory specimens, reports, and supplies. The driver follows specimen-handling procedures, schedules, checklists, and client-specific instructions, and contacts a manager if a pickup or delivery is not completed. The position may also handle deliveries for other hospital departments, answer client questions, and accommodate requests where possible.

Requirements

• Valid Michigan Driver’s License.
• Basic skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic.
• No previous experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Drive a hospital vehicle on scheduled and unscheduled trips to pick up and deliver laboratory specimens, reports, and supplies.
• Complete deliveries thoroughly and efficiently using specimen-handling procedures, schedules, checklists, and client-specific instructions.
• Contact a manager when a delivery or pickup is not completed.
• Set priorities when handling multiple requests and report problems to a manager or section leader for timely resolution.
• Complete pickups and deliveries for other hospital departments, including Materials Management (interdepartmental mail), Radiology (films), Cardiology (Holter monitor readings), and Urgent Care (cash).
• Transport medical waste when asked.
• Answer client questions and accommodate requests where possible, or refer them to a manager, section leader, or client representative.
