Hospital Custodian (Evenings, Fixed Duration) - UW Medical Center-Montlake
About The Position
UW Medical Center-Montlake Environmental Services has multiple employment opportunities for temporary full-time Evening Hospital Custodians. These positions are benefits-eligible and anticipated to be up to 6-12 months in duration. The primary responsibilities include maintaining cleanliness and care of facilities in inpatient and non-patient areas and administrative offices as assigned. This includes cleaning and disinfecting furniture, fixtures, and equipment, removing and handling soiled linen, remaking beds, dusting and wet mopping floors, performing bloodborne pathogen and chemical spill containment and clean-up, stripping, cleaning, buffing, and applying finish to floors using specialized equipment, performing in-between case cleaning and terminal cleaning of surgical, obstetrical, and invasive procedure rooms, vacuuming and spot cleaning carpets, operating carpet cleaning machinery, and performing outdoor cleaning tasks such as snow removal and sweeping sidewalks. The role also requires compliance with safety policies and procedures and medical center emergency and disaster procedures.

Responsibilities
- Cleans and disinfects all furniture, fixtures, and equipment according to procedure
- Removes and properly handles soiled linen; disinfects and remakes beds in patient rooms; dust and wet mops hard floors with disinfectant
- Performs bloodborne pathogen and chemical spill containment and clean-up according to procedure
- Strips, cleans, buffs, and applies finish to floors. Uses high speed floor buffers, polishers, and automated floors scrubbers
- Performs in between case cleaning and terminal cleaning of surgical, obstetrical, and invasive procedure rooms including flood mopping and disinfecting according to procedure
- Vacuums and spot clean carpets; operates automated carpet shampooers and extractors
- Performs cleaning and related activities in areas within a reasonable distance outside of the facility using hand-operated tools or small power equipment to remove snow or debris, and sweep sidewalks or stairs
- Complies with safety policies and procedures and medical center emergency and disaster procedures
