Health Unit Coordinator - Medical/Surgical - UW Medical Center - Montlake ( 100% FTE, Evenings)
About The Position
UW Medical Center 4NE Medical/Surgical is hiring a Health Unit Coordinator to support patients, families, and staff in a busy, fast-paced unit. The role provides an efficient system of internal and external communication and helps maintain an organized, welcoming environment. Working closely with the charge RN and other care-team members, the coordinator supports patient flow and coordinates admissions, transfers, diagnostic testing, and discharges. The position is full-time at 100% FTE, on-site, Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. It is a regular position at UW Medical Center-Montlake in Seattle.
Requirements
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- One year of healthcare, administrative, or customer service experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Responsibilities
- Provide staff, providers, and patients with an efficient system of internal and external communications, including answering phones and triaging call lights.
- Respond to patient and family inquiries in a timely, courteous, and accurate manner.
- Help maintain a welcoming and organized unit environment for patients, families, and staff.
- Work with the charge RN to manage patient flow, prioritize unit needs, and coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Prepare and compile discharge packets to support timely and safe patient discharges.
- Coordinate transportation and appropriate paperwork for patient transfers and diagnostic testing.
- Handle unit paperwork, including patient chart maintenance, consent forms, and other documentation.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment and restock as needed.
- Use Epic, Microsoft Teams, and Outlook for communication, documentation, and coordination.
- Partner with all members of the care team to prioritize patient satisfaction and exceptional care delivery.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
