About The Position

Crane Aerospace & Electronics is seeking a Hone & Lap Operator for the 2nd Shift at their Burbank, CA facility. The role involves performing honing and lapping operations on various parts, studying blueprints, verifying dimensions, and ensuring compliance with manufacturing specifications. The position requires working in a manufacturing environment and adhering to safety protocols. The company offers a $3000 sign-on bonus for this position. Second Shift Hours are Monday-Friday, 2:00 PM -10:30 PM, with potential for overtime and weekend work. Crane Aerospace & Electronics supplies critical systems and components to the aerospace and defense markets, with products used in various applications including aircraft landing gear and satellite systems. The Burbank facility is home to the Landing & Cabin Systems team.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform arithmetic computation to characterize taper, clearance, and similar data relevant to closely matched cylindrical components.
  • Able to correlate selected tooling and finishing materials (stones, compounds) with repeatable results (finish, material removal) based on direction provided.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be a US Person due to ITAR regulations.
  • Ability to lift objects up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to use a microscope and computer.
  • Experience with close tolerance manual machining operations within an Aerospace Manufacturing Environment is strongly preferred.
  • Aerospace manufacturing experience and skills in lapping, honing, or grinding are preferred.
  • Minimum two years' experience as a level one Hone & Lap Operator (or equivalent industry experience in a similar role) for Level II.
  • Minimum five years' experience as a Hone & Lap Operator (or equivalent industry experience in a similar role) for Level III.
  • Expert in the selection of tooling, polishing media, and measurement gauges for new and legacy jobs (Level III).
  • Works closely with technical team members and leadership to develop / define processes and develop other associates (Level III).
  • Moderately strong communication skills to effectively train and support level one Hone & Lap Operators (Level II).
  • Strong communication skills to effectively train and support other Hone & Lap Operators (Level III).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with close tolerance manual machining operations within an Aerospace Manufacturing Environment.
  • Aerospace manufacturing experience and skills in lapping, honing, or grinding.
  • Aerospace manufacturing experience is highly preferred (Level II and III).
  • Current with all required Crane Training (e.g Convergence for internal candidates or equivalent) (Level II and III).

Responsibilities

  • Performs necessary hone or lap on inside and/or outside diameters of various parts using honing and lapping machines and materials.
  • Studies blueprints, work orders, and/or machining instructions to determine product dimensions, diameters, tooling.
  • Verifies dimensions with precision gauges.
  • Performs rough lapping.
  • Ensures compliance with manufacturing specifications.
  • Cleans, deburrs, and packages parts.
  • Maintains calibrated equipment and supports data collection.
  • Performs initial setup of equipment and precision gauging (with assistance for Level II and III).
  • Adjusts machine operation as needed.
  • Trains and assists junior operators (Level II and III).
  • Collaborates with engineering resources to provide feedback on process improvements (Level III).
  • Troubleshoots honing and lapping machines (Level III).
