About The Position

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides one-to-one care in clients’ homes under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse or therapist, helping maintain clients’ personal comfort and supporting their health care needs. The CNA reports directly to a Staffing Manager and receives clinical oversight from the Clinical Supervisor. The role involves client visits that may last 1–3 hours and travel to homes in Eagan, Inver Grove Heights, and surrounding cities, with the position reporting to the Mendota Heights, Minnesota office. This is a part-time position with a flexible schedule during office hours, Monday through Friday. Duties include personal care, household services essential to health care at home, simple procedures and exercises under clinical direction, documentation, communication with the interdisciplinary team, and maintaining a safe and respectful client environment. The position has heavy to very heavy physical demands and requires travel to multiple community settings.

Requirements

Currently or previously listed on the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Registry, or successful completion of a formal certification training program and a written test and competency evaluation.
CNA certificate must not have been revoked or suspended and must have no limitations or restrictions.
At least 18 years of age; applicants ages 16–17 must have participated in a related school-based job training program or completed a certified HHA Competency Evaluation.
At least six months of experience in a health care facility.
Demonstrated sympathetic attitude toward caring for vulnerable people.
Ability to read, write, and carry out directions.
Maturity to deal effectively with the demands of the job.
Demonstrated ability to work with little supervision and make appropriate judgments.
Demonstrated dependability, tact, and ability to follow orders.
Proof of a negative Mantoux test or documentation of a negative chest X-ray.
Access to a dependable vehicle or public transportation to travel to multiple company business stops each day.
Valid driver’s license and proof of car insurance when using a personal vehicle for company business.
U.S. citizenship or evidence of a valid Alien Work Permit.
Disclosure of convictions and criminal history relating to crimes involving the provision of health services; candidates convicted of such crimes will not be hired.
Pass initial and ongoing background studies and screenings, including those of the Minnesota Department of Health and the Federal Office of the Inspector General’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities.
Ability to handle heavy to very heavy physical demands, including lifting clients, bending, stooping, and stretching.
Ability to adapt to varied community environments and settings, assess physical and emotional needs, and respond appropriately.

Responsibilities

Assist with personal care, including bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding, toileting, routine catheter and colostomy care, ambulation, transfers, and positioning.
Perform simple dressing changes that do not require the skills of a licensed nurse.
Assist with physician-ordered medications that are ordinarily self-administered, under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse; this typically involves reminding clients when to take medication.
Perform simple procedures as an extension of therapy services under a therapist’s direction and supervision, including range-of-motion exercises and home exercise programs.
Report changes in clients’ conditions and needs to the Registered Nurse.
Perform household services essential to health care at home, including meal preparation or feeding, laundry, and light housekeeping.
Complete records documenting care provided and pertinent observations.
Communicate effectively with members of the interdisciplinary team.
Maintain a safe client environment and identify and report suspected abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation of vulnerable clients.
Maintain client confidentiality and treat clients and families with respect.
Understand, accept, and respond to each client’s emotional needs.
Participate in in-service programs to meet compliance requirements.
Accept and fulfill assignments and exercise judgment in accepting assignments.
Follow infection control policies, including proper handwashing technique.
May assist with precepting other CNAs.
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Registered Nurse.
