About The Position

Amedisys, part of the Optum family of businesses, provides home health, hospice, and community-based services so people can receive care at home. The Home Health Aide provides hands-on personal care and assistance to patients in their residences, supporting their comfort, dignity, and daily functioning. Under the supervision of licensed clinical staff, the aide helps patients with activities of daily living in accordance with individualized care plans and promotes patient safety, independence, and quality of life.

Requirements

Current state certification or registration as a nurse assistant, as required by state certification or registration requirements.
Current CPR certification.
CNA experience within the last two years; if more than two years have passed, complete another training and competency program before providing services.
Ability to successfully pass the care center competency program.
Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

Obtain patients’ temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and respiration.
Maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment.
Assist patients with getting in and out of bed, bathing, hygiene, and toileting.
Prepare and provide meals and/or assist patients with meals.
Perform light homemaking and other environmental services.
Observe, report, and document changes in patient status.
Understand basic elements of body functioning and report changes in patients’ body functions as indicated.
Recognize emergency situations and implement appropriate emergency procedures in accordance with care center policy.
Follow care center procedures for infection prevention and control, hazardous waste handling, and safety measures.
Follow specific written personal-care instructions in accordance with the plan of care.
Assist patients with prescribed exercises as instructed by a nurse or therapist.
Perform other duties as assigned.
