About The Position

ERIS is seeking a Historic Digitizer Associate to join their growing team. The primary goal of the team is to innovate intuitive, responsive products to make environmental professionals' work lives easier. ERIS has been providing critical risk and historical information on properties in Canada since 1999 and launched in the United States in late 2013. ERIS delivers accurate, comprehensive, and innovative on-demand database research services quickly and with a service-first attitude. This is a full-time or part-time position that will be conducting research at the Library of Congress (101 Independence Avenue SE, Washington, DC 20540) and will report to the Historical Products Senior Manager. Historic Digitizer Associates conduct large-scale imaging of city, business, and specialty directories to produce digital copies of the original books that are used in the research on the prior use(s) of commercial, industrial, and properties. Digitization is performed using the various directories, catalogs, information, and resources that are available at the LOC. Historic Digitizer Associates are instrumental to the growth of ERIS. This is an opportunity to collaborate with a talented team while impacting not just the historical products, but sales, and revenue. Various hours within the Library of Congress hours of operations Monday to Saturday.

Requirements

  • Background in photography, graphic arts, fine arts, library, history, or genealogy.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel) and a Windows-based OS (Operating System).
  • Basic understanding of technology.
  • Prior work experience in an office or research setting.

  • Must be able to travel to and from the Library of Congress and carry up to 20 lbs. daily, multiple times a day.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with image capturing of periodicals (newspapers, medical journals, or magazines) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Generate electronic images using Specialty Directories at research facilities.
  • Work with Historical Products Team to ensure volumes have both detailed and dimensioned content.
  • Establish routine communications with management to provide real-time updates on workflow.
  • Proactively manage a docket of book orders to maintain consistent productivity and balance of turn-around time (TAT).
  • Identify and communicate potential coverage parameter challenges to ensure end-user satisfaction.
  • Maintain accurate notes and documents to improve the digitization process.
  • Time management through proper and consistent steps (order/research directories, generating images).
  • Work independently with minimal supervision by management.
  • Review the volumes on docket and locate all pertinent data (including variances) contained within area of coverage.
  • Capture data using imaging equipment: either using a data card in DSLR Camera, USB drive, or by directly loading information into a computer (tethering).
  • Create batch files of RAW Images/Scan materials and prepare it for volume generation.
  • Assemble/compile documented data into folders on computer.
  • Interact with a web portal to ensure imaged material properly uploads to file server.
  • Manage docket from production to completion ensuring areas of coverage are robust.
  • Order directories using Library’s research process.
  • Respond to emails/inquiries from Historical Products Team regarding turnaround time, client questions, etc.
  • Maintain accurate personal timesheet.
  • Join conference calls as needed to discuss product development, research protocols, training, goals, etc.
