Prepares histologic slides from tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by pathologist.
Requirements
Must meet current qualifications listed under section “Clinical Laboratory Personnel Requirements” defined in the federal Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments Act of 1988 (CLIA-88) and Oregon Department of Human Services Regulations, College of American Pathologists (CAP) and Joint Commission standards.
Registry as Histotechnologist with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent or be eligible for board certification within six months of attaining position

Experience with LIS and HIS computer systems, tissue processor, embedding center, automatic stainer, automated coverslipper, analytic balance, automated microtome, microwave, microscope, telephone, tissue flotation bath, volumetric glassware and cryostat

Demonstrates the ability to use a personal computer and various software programs applicable to the position
Demonstrates the ability to operate applicable office equipment
Exhibits the ability to deal effectively interdepartmentally & with the public
Exhibits the ability to maintain confidentiality, think and act independently with minimal supervision
Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location
Demonstrates a general knowledge of histologic techniques, procedures, and safety precautions
Able to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently
May be required to lift up to 40 pounds
Must use standard precautions due to threat of exposure to blood and body fluids
Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone
