About The Position

We are a busy Gastroenterology office with 33 Providers, currently expanding our practice by adding additional providers and several more procedure rooms. We are looking for a team-oriented individual to provide great customer service to our patients, with great attention to detail and a passion for healthcare. This individual will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the laboratory with regard to histology specimen processing. The position would process and prepare patient tissue according to department procedures using a wide range of depth of technical and specialized knowledge. Participates in laboratory operations as needed. Supports continuous improvement of laboratory services to ensure high quality and timely pathology for quality diagnosis. This individual should hold an HT or HTL ASCP certification.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates with physicians and nursing staff to receive specimens for lab submission.
  • Develops understanding for accessioning and pathology computer program software.
  • Grosses specimens by counting and measuring pieces according to lab protocol.
  • Effectively operates, changes, and troubleshoots errors on the specimen processing machine.
  • Embeds paraffin tissue accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Accurately and effectively cuts surgical specimens on a microtome.
  • Responsible for staining and applying coverslip slides on an automated staining machine.
  • Troubleshoots basic errors on the automated staining machine.
  • Operates, changes, and rotates all histology lab equipment such as the tissue processor, staining machine, etc.
  • Performs and assists with other lab operations such as accessioning, sending out specimens to other facilities, ordering supplies, etc.
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced working environment and is comfortable in a lab setting that has a high volume of specimen embedding and cutting.
  • Consistently works to create quality slides and specimens for the Pathologist to read.
  • Works well and effectively with others in a lab environment.
