About The Position

This is a Full-Time Histologic Technician II position in Anatomic Pathology, working a Monday through Friday night 3rd shift embedding role. There is a possibility of transitioning to a 4x10 hour schedule. The role involves adhering to general hospital standards to foster a cooperative work environment, ensuring accurate and timely accessioning, labeling, and billing of specimens. The technician will also be responsible for the accurate and timely processing and staining of specimens, providing maximum care in identification procedures, and performing special stains and/or enzyme histochemical stains. Additional Anatomic Pathology Department laboratory procedures may also be required. The position encourages self-study and continuing education to improve work skills and contributes to the smooth and efficient operation of the section and department. Protecting oneself and others from bloodborne and/or airborne diseases through approved policies and procedures is essential, as is promoting the professional image of laboratories in accordance with hospital, department, and professional society standards.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in applied science or high school diploma/GED with two years training as defined by the Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and the National Society of Histotechnology.
  • Three years' experience in a clinical histology lab preferred.
  • HT (ASCP) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.
  • Assures accurate and timely accessioning, labeling and billing of specimens, according to departmental practices.
  • Assures accurate and timely processing and staining of specimens, according to departmental practices.
  • Provides maximum care in identification procedures when processing patient specimens.
  • Performs special stains and/or enzyme histochemical stains.
  • Performs additional Anatomic Pathology Department laboratory procedures.
  • Improves work skills through self-study and continuing education.
  • Contributes to the smooth and efficient operation of the section and department.
  • Protects self, coworkers and facility by following approved policies and procedures to prevent the spread of bloodborne and/or airborne diseases.
  • Exhibits and promotes the professional image of laboratories in accordance with hospital, department, and professional society philosophies, goals and standards of laboratory testing.
