About The Position

This PRN position in Anatomic Pathology at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center involves embedding and microtomy. The role requires adherence to hospital standards for a cooperative work environment, accurate specimen accessioning, labeling, and billing, as well as precise processing and staining of specimens. The technician will provide maximum care in identification procedures, perform special stains and other Anatomic Pathology laboratory procedures, and continuously improve work skills through self-study and continuing education. The position also contributes to the efficient operation of the section and department, ensures safety by following policies to prevent disease spread, and promotes the professional image of the laboratories.

Requirements

Associate's degree in applied science or high school diploma/GED with two years training as defined by the Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and the National Society of Histotechnology.
Three years' experience in a clinical histology lab preferred.

Nice To Haves

HT (ASCP) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.
Assures accurate and timely accessioning, labeling and billing of specimens, according to departmental practices.
Assures accurate and timely processing and staining of specimens, according to departmental practices.
Provides maximum care in identification procedures when processing patient specimens.
Performs special stains and/or enzyme histochemical stains.
Performs additional Anatomic Pathology Department laboratory procedures.
Improves work skills through self-study and continuing education.
Contributes to the smooth and efficient operation of the section and department.
Protects self, coworkers and facility by following approved policies and procedures to prevent the spread of bloodborne and/or airborne diseases.
Exhibits and promotes the professional image of laboratories in accordance with hospital, department, and professional society philosophies, goals and standards of laboratory testing.
