About The Position
HIM Tech (Release of Information) is the hospital’s designated contact for requests to release patient health information. The position reviews all requests, checks them for compliance, and responds within the timeframes mandated by state and federal law. The role ensures release-of-information activities comply with HIPAA regulations and that only the minimum necessary protected health information is released to individuals who have a right and need to know it. The position processes and maintains accurate records of all release-of-information transactions so they can be readily retrieved for requests for an accounting of disclosures. It also provides exceptional customer service, backs up HIM technicians, and performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Thorough knowledge of state and federal laws regarding release of protected health information.
- Training in California Consent Law and HIPAA Privacy/Security.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Nice To Haves
- Previous medical records experience.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology.
- HIPAA Privacy/Security certification.
Responsibilities
