About The Position
The Release of Information Manager oversees and directs all functions related to the release of patient health information. The role requires profound knowledge of medicolegal guidelines applicable to medical record processing and thorough knowledge of Federal, State, and Local regulations regarding the release of protected health information. The manager plans, organizes, and monitors release of information activities, including accepting requests for patient health information from patients, third parties, physicians and medical facilities for continuity of care, subpoenas, warrants, and mortuaries. The role maintains compliance with applicable regulations, responds to inquiries within mandated timeframes, and maintains accurate records of release of information transactions. The manager ensures releases follow HIPAA’s minimum-necessary guideline and are made only to those with the right and need to know. The position also assists with HIM functions and other assigned duties as needed.
Requirements
- Five (5) year minimum acute hospital experience in release of information.
- Profound knowledge of medicolegal guidelines applicable to medical record processing.
- Thorough knowledge of State and Federal laws regarding release of protected health information.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
Nice To Haves
- Working knowledge of medical terminology.
- HIPAA certification in Privacy/Security.
- Completion of a medical terminology course.
- Training in California Consent Law and HIPAA Privacy/Security.
