About The Position

The HIM Specialist works on the Health Information Management team at Garnet Health Medical Center-Catskill. The role reconciles receipt of medical records, prepares, scans, and indexes charts, and reviews records for completeness and adequacy to ensure compliance with policies and standards established by the hospital, Medical Staff, and hospital accrediting agencies. The position requires strong organization, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively amid interruptions and competing priorities.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Good organizational skills.
Some knowledge of regulating agencies that affect healthcare institutions.
Ability to foster collaborative relationships and work well under pressure.
Ability to organize and synthesize new information and prioritize tasks.
Critical-thinking and analytical skills, flexibility, and ability to multitask.
Detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled.
Sensitivity to customer needs and expectations.
Ability to perform the full anatomical range of motion needed for tasks, with visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment.
Ability to withstand long periods of sitting, standing, and/or constant walking.
Ability to lift 25 lbs.
Ability to express or exchange ideas by spoken word.

Nice To Haves

Courses in medical terminology.
One year working in a HIM Department.
