About The Position

The HIM Specialist oversees the management and organization of patient health information within a Suvida healthcare center or network. The role supports accurate, secure, and efficient medical-record handling by ensuring patient data is collected accurately, stored securely, and handled in compliance with applicable regulations. The specialist uses technology to improve data processes, trains staff on best practices, oversees vendor relationships, maintains data security, updates policies, and addresses problems in a fast-paced environment.

The role also retrieves outside medical records, responds to provider questions and record requests in Elation, and works with center staff to improve the completion of patient releases of information (ROIs).

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Outstanding knowledge and understanding of applicable laws and regulations.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Customer service experience.
• Bilingual in Spanish and English.

Responsibilities

• Retrieve outside records not assigned to a vendor, using available methods such as fax, phone calls, and Outside Care.
• Respond to provider messages in Elation regarding questions and medical-record requests.
• Work with center staff to improve the process for completing patient ROIs and collecting outside records.
• Ensure patient data, including medical histories, diagnoses, and test results, is accurate, secure, and accessible.
• Comply with medical, legal, and ethical standards.
• Enter information into electronic medical records (eMR) and monitor it for accuracy.
• Facilitate correction of identified errors in medical records.
• Communicate upcoming changes that may affect operations, such as new providers, center openings, or process adjustments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
