About The Position

The HIM Specialist compiles, processes, and maintains patient medical records in accordance with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements. The role handles health-records communications and requests, helps patients complete release forms, responds to urgent requests, and scans records into patient charts. The position also supports compliance and organizational operations by completing special projects and other required duties.

Requirements

• Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Demonstrated reliability.
• Ability to multitask.
• Attention to detail.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

• Associate degree preferred.
• Experience in a medical practice setting preferred, but not necessary.

Responsibilities

• Respond to health-records-related phone calls.
• Retrieve correspondence from medical-records fax, email, or mail and distribute it as appropriate.
• Assist patients with forms to release or receive medical records.
• Respond to STAT requests and follow through appropriately.
• Handle tax letters, insurance audits, and Heidi’s requests.
• Answer and manage telephone encounters in a timely manner.
• Retrieve high-priority requests.
• Scan records into the appropriate patient charts.
• Complete special projects.
• Comply with applicable policies and procedures and support the Compliance Program.
• Perform other duties as required to contribute to organizational operations.
